Current selection: Jonathan Edwards on Beauty, The Essential Edwards Collection, by Owen Strachan and Doug Sweeney, Moody, February 2010, 160 pp., $9.99. Jonathan Edwards, preacher, theologian, philosopher, and defender of Reformed theology during the First Great Awaking, was also one who enjoyed long walks. Philosophers on long walks are dangerous interlocutors. Recently a short collection of his thoughts upon aesthetics and their affect upon philosophical theology has been printed. It is a testimony of a man who preached during the Enlightenment, was swept up in the power of the discoveries of his age, and yet never deified reason as some of his colleagues did. So take a long walk to your favorite spot, read a little Edwards, and then join us on Monday evening, August 9, at 7:30 at Flossmoor Station to discuss. Contact Mark J Dykstra with any questions.
