Worship

What We Value

We value worship that intentionally awakens us to the presence of God through the preaching of the Word and the celebration of the sacraments.

We use the voices of the congregation in liturgy, music, prayer, and proclamation. We expect preaching to be biblically-grounded, thoughtful, engaging, challenging, relevant, and responsive to the movement of the Spirit. And we try to develop well-crafted and participatory liturgies, including music that is thematically of one piece.

We want worship to be authentic to our experience and tradition while still being hospitable, accessible, and inclusive to a broad sweep of worshippers. Thus, we seek a balance of music that represents the best of Christian hymnody as well as new forms of worship music.

Most importantly, we strive to worship in a manner that inspires, encourages, and sends us out to love and serve both God and neighbor.

Music & Choir

Music & Choir

Hope’s worship is aided by our fine choir under the direction of Dr. David Baar. All are welcome to join voice with them. Choir rehearsals are most Wednesday nights from 7:30 to 9:00 PM, Labor Day through mid-May.

In addition to their Sunday service schedule, the choir plays a lead role in worship on Ash Wednesday and Christmas Eve. Every Good Friday they lead worship with a major choral work, accompanied by a small chamber orchestra. Come and sing!
